bs25 blog A BookSmart Update and Flat Rate Shipping

Today’s a pretty good day to be a Blurbarian. We’ve made a couple changes that we hope will make your bookmaking lives a whole lot easier.

First, we’ve introduced a new flat-rate shipping option, available immediately to customers shipping books to addresses within the U.S, UK, Europe, or Canada. What this means is that within these regions, you can ship up to five books of any size and weight for one flat rate. Value? Yes, please.

Where else can you get up to five books, of any size or weight, shipped anywhere in the U.S. for only $6.99? A Blurb book that YOU created is truly priceless – and now you can ship your books for less than the cost of a hamburger and fries. We’re hoping this will be a big help, especially given this challenging economy.

Now a bit more detail. Flat-rate shipping significantly reduces the shipping costs for customers ordering between 1 to 5 books – using U.S. Ground or International Economy options – as follows:

US: 1 to 5 books = $6.99
Canada: 1 to 5 books = $7.99 (USD)
Europe: 1 to 5 books = €5.99
UK: 1 to 5 books = ₤3.99
Rest of world: 1 to 5 books = varies per order

Second, the new Blurb BookSmart® is available for download, complete with new bells and whistles, and plenty of bug fixes and stability improvements. You can get it here.

BookSmart 2.5 has a bunch of new features that give you even more control in the customization of your book layouts; improved guidance and workflow while you make your books; and increased stability of the application itself.

The specifics include things like improved library management, a contextual resource library to get help from within BookSmart, guidance for trim lines and safe area, snap to grid, new design tools, and much more. Oh yeah, we also fixed a ton of bugs. Improved performance and stability. You know the drill by now.

You can check out all the details here, and we hope you’ll download BookSmart 2.5 and take it for a spin. As always, we want to know what you think – that’s how we innovate, and how we get better. Thanks, and happy bookmaking!

  7. Question: I have been trying to download my blog that I have had for 2 yrs. I was able to download the first book and print it off …. Now I am doing my second book for the second year and it won’t let me download the whole blog again and delete the first year because it is over the 440 pages. So, I have not been able to download my second year. Anyone have any suggestions ????

  9. I have a question. I have the old version of booksmart. I have already done one book, I’m almost finished with my second, and I’m ready to start my third. It looked like on the website that you can’t download the new version if you are currently working on a book? Is this true? How should I go about downloading the new version>>? Thanks!

  10. Too bad, it looks like it’s still not Blogger-compatible. I hope I’m mistaken, but if not, you should probably take the claim that it’s Blogger-compatible off your website.

  11. Things are looking great – but can I insert photos on an angle yet? Do they still have to be all straight up and down? I keep looking at the new upgrades, but I’m still waiting for some innovations on the layout choices. I don’t understand why the other bookmakers are able to do this, but you guys cannot. I SOOOO prefer using you guys to the others… but I continue to put off making books or making the ones I absolutely have to, with the other guys. PLEEEAAASSE pleeease please, I’m begging!!
Glad I can use my own pic for a background now! YAY!

  12. Thanks for the latest version. If I upgrade from 2.02 to this version, will it retain my book? It would be nice to know before upgrading. I don’t want to risk losing the structure, design and the many hours I’ve put in for the book.

  14. Just upgraded to 2.5, but all of a sudden I cannot drag pictures from Windows Explorer into my book, which was possible in the previous version.

I used to go over all my pictures in Windows Explorer or Windows Live Photo Gallery and drag & drop them conveniently into my book – why is this feature not available anymore?

    Besides that love the program.

  16. Hello…

Unfortunately there’s no shipping flatrate in Luxembourg! The shippment costs 20 to 30 €! That’s to much! Please change that… There’s no Economy Option! Why??
I can not spend more on shipping than on books…

    Cheers

  18. When I go to checkout I am not given the new Flat-rate shipping option (I have 5 books I want to order), just the usual two options for Canada – $35 and $41. How do I opt for the flat-rate shipping?

  19. Apparently flat rate shipping to Canada does not apply on up to five books of ANY size or any weight as advertised- apparently they must weigh under a total of four pounds. Quite misleading and too bad!!!!!

  21. WOOOHOOOO!!!!! I’m excited about the shiprate. I’ve done my first book and really enjoyed working on it. I’m a bit of a perfectionnist so I have not published it yet, but I should do this this week and taking advantage of the new shipping rates. I’m excited!!!!! Thanks for such a great idea of a program!! I.m talking about it to everyone!

  22. I’ll try to take a stab at as many of these as I can…

    - flat-rate shipping is in effect now.
    - you can continue to work on current projects within BookSmart 2.5.
    - suggestion for large blog project – work in multiple volumes, one per year.
    - thanks for suggestions on other places to expand our flat-rate shipping – we take all this feedback into consideration, so will be checking on these things ASAP.

    thanks!!

  23. Has anyone else noticed an appreciable lowering of print quality in their Blurb books? Suddenly they are far less vibrant. I am very disappointed with the quality and, of course, since there is no way to actually speak to Blurb, there has been no response to my complaints. I have been ordering from Blurb for years but will not do so any more or suggest Blurb to others. Too bad, because I really loved the products I received before.

  24. K Faulkes and everyone … regarding flat-rate shipping to Canada – we did find a small glitch and some orders are not seeing the Economy/flat-rate option. If that has happened to you please contact customer support so we can help out. This problem will be fixed later this week.
