Blurb BookSmart gives you an easy way to turn blogs from popular blogging services (Blogger, LiveJournal, and TypePad) into books. And if you’ve started on a blog book, you may have discovered that, well, a blog is not exactly a book – and a book is not exactly a blog. Here are a few tips for making your blog book really rock:

1) Choose a book size: You can use any of our book sizes for your blog book, but if you’re trying to duplicate the look of your blog, you might think about our Standard Portrait or Pocket and Trade sizes. ↓

Pick a book size! Portrait, Pocket, and Trade maintain a closer look to most blogs

2) Links and comments: When you import your blog into BookSmart you can choose whether to include links and whether to include comments. Again, this is up to you, but since most blog links end up being really, really long, they’re not always terribly useful in a printed book. Comments can be interesting (depending on your commenters, of course), just be sure to go through and clear out any spam. ↓

Footnoted links are not always your friend

3) Work with your images and layouts: Web images, like those used in your blog, have a resolution of 72 DPI (that’s Dots Per Inch), whereas print images need to be at least 300 DPI. Our blog layouts use small image containers, which allow allow you to resize your images to a printable DPI. Unfortunately, this happens at the expense of your overall image size. If you want to use layouts with larger image containers, you’ll need to replace your imported images with the original images from your camera, computer, or smart phone. This can take a little time, but for many blogs it’s worth it. ↓
