Wonder what the new year and the latest technology will bring? Oliver Rist has been thinking ahead for you, and he’s got some clever ideas for promoting yourself and your latest, greatest business ideas that include group chat and – hey, look at that! – Blurb books. [Full disclousure: Our content director worked with Oliver at InfoWorld.]
Oliver describes marketing as the “non-science of promoting your product, service, or particular criminal idiosyncrasy” (ooh, that’s good) and guerilla marketing as anything that’s cheap and/or promising enough to try once. Blurb books apparently fit that (small) bill, and Oliver explains that the guerilla marketing opportunity here isn’t necessarily to sell those books, but to get them into the hands of prospective clients pronto. He recommends three ways to do this:
-
Offer them on your Web site
-
Give them away as prizes
-
Hand them out at trade shows or other industry events
Oliver also has some really juicy tips for keeping costs low and getting the job done – but to hear what those are, you’ll have to give him a listen. You’ll thank me later for the newfound bookish smarts, not to mention the snappy patter.
