Nikon D80

Welcome back to #CameraThursdays. Every week we bring you a camera-toting member of the Blurb staff with the camera they love. It’s really amazing to see not just the variety of cameras people have here, but the photos that they take. This week’s comes from a software engineer “with a particular affinity for building shiny things in the browser.” And his photos are pretty great too.

Camera: Nikon D80 with f/1.8 50mm Prime

Job: Software Engineer

“I shoot with a Nikon D80, with my primary lens being a Nikon f/1.8 50mm prime. It’s a really fast lens which lets me take photos in low light and with fast-moving subjects. I find that I prefer the prime to my zoom lens in most situations, it’s super compact (which is less intimidating to my subjects).

Since the D80 has a crop sensor, the effective focal range is more like 75mm, which makes it really awkward for close-range photos (don’t even try to take photos at a dinner table). With enough footwork, I find that in most situations I can just move around and get the right frame I want. And since the body-lens combo is really affordable, I’d recommend this to anybody who’s looking to get a DSLR.”
