Not sure what to bring, serve, or imbibe at the New Year’s party, or any of the holiday parties you’re partaking in this week? Want a red wine that will knock the socks off your taste buds without crippling your wallet? Check out Everyday Reds by Tammy and Alex Striler.

The Strilers, wine enthusiasts with a particular penchant for reds, rallied friends and family for a blind tasting of over 140 California Merlots over an 18-month period. They stuck with 2005 vintage and their tasters ranged from experts well versed in the ways of sniffing and swiveling to rank beginners. Everyone’s vote counted and all tastings were completely blind – no peeks, no clues, no indication whatsoever as to what wine was being served.

You’ll find the results in their Blurb book, and if you’re like us, you’ll be tickled to learn that there are some very affordable, very tasty wines to be had (can you say yes to $3.99 a bottle? We can.) Cheers to the Strilers for a great book. And cheers to all of you. Happy New Year. Have a great time, be safe, enjoy.
