What started as a long-term editorial assignment for Craig Walker, the Denver Post photographer behind Ian Fisher: An American soldier, has resulted in a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for feature photography and a stellar Blurb book.
Walker and his Denver Post colleagues Kevin Simpson, Michael Riley, and Bruce Finley followed the life of Ian Fisher and his family during Ian’s recruitment, induction, training, deployment, and return from combat in Iraq.
Tim Rasmussen, another Denver Post colleague, collected their writing and Walker’s photos in a Blurb book, primarily as a keepsake for Ian and his family. However, as can happen with great stories, the project became larger. Be sure to check out the full multimedia tour and get some of the details behind the story in this press release.
Lucky for us, these talented folks have another Blurb book in the works. We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, we’re hoping to see more of this crew in the 2010 Photography Book Now competition.
