Here at Blurb we’ve been frequent exponents of mobile photography, iPhoneography, call it what you will. We’ve even made it possible to import your Instagram or Facebook photo albums directly into a book. And we’re always excited to see what mobile photographers get up to when given free reign.
Cell Phone Photography Exhibition II, drawn from a recent competition sponsored by the 1,400-member Texas Photographic Society, shows what happens when photographers from around the country take their phones to the limit. The book is available in the Blurb bookstore.
What makes this book really inspirational is the wide range of styles represented. “There is no one ‘cell phone look’ that I was favoring in this contest,” judge Dan Burkholder writes in the Introduction. “There isn’t a solid formula in cell phone photography any more than there is in generic photography.” That’s certainly true. Each mobile photographer has his or her own recipe, mixing and matching filters and apps to create a distinct style. The book lists the specific phone model and apps used to create each image, making it almost a cookbook of creativity.
Congratulations to the contest winners, and thanks for the ideas!
