A delicious glimpse into traditional Italian cuisine, “Cooking with Nonna” also includes classic Jewish Italian dishes: Carciofi Giudia, Italian bugie that double as Haman’s Ear cookies for Purim, and an entire chapter of Passover desserts.
The author got creative with BookSmart™ to design this tribute to his grandmother’s culinary talents. Wonderful vintage photos of the cook as a girl in Italy punctuate the book – we love the shot of Nonna-to-be with her goats on the chapter title page of “Meat, Poultry, Fish.” He uses the same subtle background pattern throughout for consistency, set against different colors. But our favorite touch is Nonna’s handwritten recipe cards – they illustrate the typeset recipes and give them real personality.
There are some great recipes to explore in this book. And as a big plus, “Cooking with Nonna” is a Blurb for Good book. All the profits from sales of the book go to benefit ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research.
