With a name like Coffee Plant, it’s got to be good. And with a slogan like, “Fighting Corporate Coffee,” it’s got to be a lovingly sassy, socially responsible café for those craving artisan coffee. In our latest Book of the Week, the photographer Uwe Schneider publishes a series of images taken of Coffee Plant baristas as they act out their café’s slogan.
Coffee Plant, Fighting Corporate Coffee features photographs from the café’s marketing campaigns, each representing a different take on “Fighting Corporate Coffee.” According to the book’s introduction, the campaigns range from a samurai interpretation to civil war inspired photographs to shots inspired by ’70s spy movies. What does this have to do with good coffee? Everything if you’re a “small, independent shop in Portland OR, surrounded by huge chain coffee shops …” and want to take a stand and differentiate your drip.
We really appreciate the spirit of your book, Uwe, and we wish you and Coffee Plant continued success.
If you’re in Portland, Oregon and in need of some green caffeine, take inspiration from Coffee Plant, Fighting Corporate Coffee and swing by. We’d meet you there for a cup of the house, black, if we lived closer.
