Rio de Janeiro is a tough place to hang-out, at least in the exquisitely photographed, deeply disturbing historias do rio.
Photographed by acclaimed photographer Lorenzo Moscia, with text (in Italian) by Matteo Gennari, this book is chock-full of sex, slum, and implicit violence — shot with a gritty, evocative eye and an amazing resonance with the subject matter.
Pictures of kids playing futbol intermingle with shots of sex-workers, images of gorgeous beaches, manicured high-rises, and shanty-towns (favelas).
According to Eve, our Italian-speaking intern, the story-line follows Funk dancing, the kidnapped sister of a soccer player, and the challenges of young favela-dweller named Anderson. Thanks, Eve!
