A group of friends go to New York for six days. Sure, nothing strange there. But they agree that for this trip they’ll wear costumes. Only costumes. On the plane, getting a sandwich, playing chess in the park. This is the basis for NYC Costume Trip, a book we like to pull out around this time of year to get us inspired for Halloween hijinks.
The book begins as we’re introduced to the friends…
The book, photographed by Dale Tidy, also includes snatches of dialogue – very funny dialogue. Some of which can’t be reprinted here (this is, after all, a family blog). But here’s a snatch:
Jeff: You should really write all this stuff down.
Dale: Okay, good idea
Pete: Dale, can you zip me up? … Don’t write that down.
So we follow our costumed revelers from the airport:
To the taxi cab…
To their hotel…
And even into the showers…
It’s a hot October in New York… but the guy in the bunny mask finds a way to cope:
What makes NYC Costume Trip so endearing is its artful design, the immediacy of the photography, and its pure, unapologetic wackiness. And it has us thinking a little differently about what we should pack next time we go on vacation.
