Lately the publishing world is all atwitter with “best of 2006″ lists: Publishers Weekly has its venerable Best Books of the Year; Stephen King has his own gory take on the subject; and the New York Times Book Review judges 2006 books by their covers. Britain’s Literary Review acknowledges what can only be described as a rash of Bad Sex in Fiction in 2006, with an award presented by Courtney Love – Iain Hollingshead’s “bulging trousers” reference “tipped the balance,” said the judges in a classic example of dry British wit. Bonus: If you read the entire gruesome excerpt, you’re guaranteed at least one answer correct on The Guardian’s “2006: A year in books” quiz.

Here’s another one for you: Of the Top Ten Media & Publishing Business Ideas in 2006, guess what’s #1? And to think that this time last year, we had our fingers crossed that fellow bloggers would respond to the “blog slurper” thing. Maybe we can finally uncross them now, thanks to all you early adopters out there – good thing too, because that was a hand cramp just waiting to happen.
