Recently, the Blurberati hung out in Dublin for PhotoIreland and, as with all business trips, we had to find a place to eat. Yelp led us to a fantastic, famously old Dublin pub called L. Mulligan Grocer or Larry Mulligan’s by the locals. Nondescript from the outside, but once inside good food and beers aplenty.
What sets this pub apart from any other as far as I know is its unique repurposing of old hardcover books. We like to chronicle clever DIY ideas around books, and this one is no exception – old books as menu holders.
It made us smile as the hostess grabbed two books from the library, led us to our table, and placed the books down, and opened them to the menus. A brown ribbon tied around the book held the regularly changing menu in place. The drinks menu books even had their dust jackets intact.
Wonderful seeing a group of four to five patrons being led to a table by someone holding a stack of old books.
Brilliant, just brilliant.
