Forgive the cheesy wordplay, but this week’s Book of the Week, “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark,” impressed us for many reasons – and not just because it reminded us of one of our favorite Chris Farley quotes. The book was created by the Carthage College Graphic Design parting seniors, and in addition to the awesome spreads in this book it’s notable for a couple reasons.
We’ve seen a huge swing in the number of “un-yearbooks” being created by classes, teams, groups, and organizations within schools from elementary through graduate school, and even alumni groups. “Official” yearbooks often only give a couple dedicated pages to any one group, and now that it’s so easy to make a Blurb book, many people are doing just that.
“That’s Gonna Leave a Mark” represents “a compilation of book spreads designed by students enrolled in the Spring 2008 Senior Seminar for Graphic Design in the Department of Communication and Digital Media at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin.” We’re seeing many compilation books being created, a large number of which are created using the Blurb GroupBook feature. Since day one at Blurb we’ve seen communities coming together to make books around events and shared interests, and it’s exciting for us to see this category of books really take off.
So congratulations to the Carthage College senior class on being selected as BOTW – not a bad parting shot.
