Last night-ish, Instagram added the ability to embed photos and videos in blogs and web pages using an embed code you can grab from the web interface. It’s a welcome addition – not that you couldn’t add photos to posts before via the old upload, but what everyone wants is the ability to tie the photo directly to their account, so said photo can be liked. It also makes it possible to curate the content of other Instagramers without using third-party services.
Simply click the ubiquitous “share” icon by the photo and you get a little pop-up with the embed code:
The default size is 612 x 710, which is kinda big for a lot of blogs (like ours), so you may have to do a little math and editing of the code to get your image to a more manageable size. Still, this little addition is certainly going to make our lives easier.
Of course, it goes without saying that we think Instagram photos belong in books as well as web pages.
