Several years ago, a fashion designer friend of mine was asked by her employer to publish a book of her sketches to be distributed to buyers. They wanted just a few hundred copies. So she went around to various publishers, who quoted her prices in the range of a new luxury sedan — way more than the company was willing to spend. Her book never got made.
My friend’s situation was one of the first I thought of when I started working for Blurb, and I was reminded of it again today because it’s Fashion Week here in San Francisco. What a great opportunity to make a book — whether it’s a portfolio showcasing your original designs or a photo-journal capturing the best of the week’s runway styles. Thanks to Blurb’s affordable, publish-on-demand approach, fashionistas can now make their book and still have change left over to spend on the season’s latest must-have looks.
