Filmmaker Danny Cooke did this wonderful short video about Paul Collier who runs of the few remaining moveable type shops in the UK. Take a look, you can almost smell the ink and feel the pages. Even with the digital side of publishing becoming ever more filled with fantastic possibilities, we know that the book as artifact and the ineffable draw of letterpress will never disappear. As Collier says in the video, that tactile quality is something we long for in our souls.
Oh, and be sure to catch the video credits – they’re wonderful. Big thanks to the Storybird blog for bringing this to our attention.
