Book of the Week gets devoured

A link to a new book in Blurb’s bookstore bounced through Blurb HQ yesterday, and the Blurberati have been eating up People Eating ever since – it’s part humor book, part surreal art prank, and totally fascinating. Photographer Shawn Marc Stevens has caught people with their guards down and their mouths full: kids attacking corn cobs as big as their forearms, a grandma tearing into stir-fried veggies, a burly guy delicately negotiating a tricky squid tentacle. And that tourist in the Canadian flag umbrella hat with eyes closed in pure chicken-wing bliss might seem crazed, if not for the undeniable truth of the matter: We’ve all been that guy.

People Eating may prompt you to mind your table manners, or at least cultivate some impressive new talents. (Can you shove a whole lobster in your mouth?) Then again, it may make you hungry, and a tad jealous. (Where can I get some of those Cuban sandwiches, and cereal on a sailboat?) But for voracious readers and adventurous eaters everywhere, this book’s a real treat. Congrats, Shawn!
