Lately we’ve been talking a lot about BookSmart. Not today. Today is all about BookLove. Romance is alive at Blurb and we’ve got two Books of the Week to prove it.
First up is The Proposal by Carson McMillan and Ginnie Angelini. I dare you to view this book’s Preview and not feel moved by Carson’s surprise marriage proposal caught on camera in some sort of romantic play-by-play. You literally get to see him pop the question, you get to see her face as it happens, and on the cover, you get to see the resounding, “Yes!” They even start the book with his and her accounts of the whole thing. This is true romance, people. (And I’m not talking about the Tarantino film.)

Way over on the other side of the love/life spectrum, we have The old couple by Dan Hayon. Two people together from 1943 through 2006. We see them young, we see them older, we see them on their wedding day, and we also see two empty chairs where they might have sat together in later years, reading the paper or drinking tea. Dan Hayon compiled a loving, moving tribute to his parents’ life together. We were sorry to learn that his father won’t see the book, and we were honored to have the privilege ourselves.

Capturing a proposal on camera and turning it into a book is really original. We also know of at least one Blurbarian who made a book that included the actual proposal. Can you imagine having these books to look back on? And how cool would it be to make a sequel every year for your anniversary? Or a major marital retrospective, like The old couple. Wow, there’s so much marriage stuff to bookify and it’s not even Valentine’s Day.
So there you have it. Book of the Week times two. Something old, something new. All of it very romantic. We congratulate the authors for being in love, capturing love, and working on personally meaningful books. To do the same, all you need is love and BookSmart.

Allison, I’m so glad you highlighted The Proposal. I happened to see it today in the bookstore and was amazed at how the entire proposal was caught on film (err..pixels) but more amazed that Carson and Ginnie made their book so fast! Looks like they were engaged only 11 days ago! That’s amazing. Congrats to the happy couple. I can’t wait to see their wedding book.
Allison, thank you for showing my book within the Book of the week selection. I was moved by your kind words. I don’t know who you are.
I’ve look on the About us page, but just young faces, no names…
Take a look yourself at that photo and tell me where are you, if you want, of course. You can answer me at hayon@noos.fr
Thanks again.
I also love ‘The Proposal’. What a fantastic idea. I found their video on YouTube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6zAZjIhQIc
