There’s been a lot of chatter lately about home made flipbooks, especially since the curious blog put up this post on how to make your own flipbook with video footage utilizing Photoshop and After Effects.
Our friends over at MOO even blogged about it and had a fantastic idea - using MOO business cards to create your own flipbook. Genius? I think so. Uploading the images to MOO is simple and you won’t have to worry about cutting up sheets of photos to make your book - everything will be printed in just the right size, ready to be assembled. Just be sure to leave some blank space on the far left edge of the card for binding and you’re good to go.

I have been noticing many mentions of flipbooks recently as well, and I was hoping Blurb was already producing them and I just happent overlook it.
As a photographer trying to gain access to new galleries, I thought a small flip book with my photography that would accompany a letter and cd, could stand out among the others that submit. The decision makers at the gallery could put it in their pocket and show others.
Any thought of adding this to your line up?

yes, you should offer this kind of book. flipclips.com does a good job but blurb does a better job than other online printers.

that is a good idea, but…why? there’s no depth in a flipbook. it’s just a bunch of pictures. not to be ignorant or anything though…
I really hope you start offering these! I suggested it in the products survey…and everyone loves them. I think they’d be a huge hit!
Would U pl start offering these? This is real need and seems Blurb can fulfill it. Pl let’s know at least when and why?
I used to make flipbooks all the time as a kid and found they flip at around 10-15 images a second. If you have video editing software, you can export video to individual frames (jpegs). Then copy every 2nd image in sequence into a new folder to be printed. They seem to flip best from the back page page to the front.
It’s relatively easy to import video in photoshop and then export it as seprate layer frames and used those frames in flip book. The only major issue with flip book is book like binding. Drills, stapplers and/or glue doesn’t give professional look. Is there any affordable printer-binding system available which can print small books?
I just discovered that IMovie on macs can export video to image sequences where you can choose how many frames per second ie 12 and you can save them as jpegs etc. I’m sure Blurb could supply the nice binding.

I just received two books and I had problem with the binding you could see the glue and the pager tore out. Have anyone had this problem with the books made wiht premiun paper?

Sorry to hear that your book is less than perfect. Pages should not be coming out of your book. Sounds like a manufacturing defect. Please contact customer support and someone will help you get a new book.

Here’s another vote for flipbooks from Blurb. You could make two flipbooks in one since you print both sides of the page. Really all we need from Blurb are the template (identifying the left column of the page that won’t be visible because someone’s fingers are holding it) and the smaller format (3×4 seems like it would be large enough to see and still flip, but you’d have to test it to see if it would work). A recommendation on the best paper for flipping would be nice too. The template could make it easy to rotate the book too, for instance it would easily import all pics from book 1 into the right hand pages, then it would import all the pics from book 2 into the left hand pages upside down. I would make these for Christmas gifts right now if you supported the smaller format!
