We get a lot of questions about how to ensure the images in your book come out exactly as you’re expecting them. Our HP Indigo printers are extraordinary when it comes to printing high quality images, but for our professional users, that’s not all it takes to replicate your best shots. Our B3 members use a specific B3 ICC profile so that they have access to a more color controlled workflow from home to printer, but some B3 professionals might still notice that the image on their screen doesn’t match a hard copy of a photograph in their hand. Of course, one also needs to compensate for the amount of brightness a monitor gives off knowing that it can’t be necessarily replicated through any print process.
This is largely due to a monitor that’s no longer calibrated correctly. Over time monitors drift and need to be re-calibrated so that the colors on your screen truly represent your image files. This doesn’t just affect books you make - you’ll see the difference in anything you print. So how do you avoid it? All you need is a simple monitor re-calibration tool, such as the Spyder3. Once your monitor is properly calibrated you’ll see improved results. To learn more about how to calibrate your monitor and it’s advantages, check out datacolor’s tutorial videos here.
