I know that every time a coastal Californian claims to want snow, somewhere a true cold weather dweller secretly wishes us an ice storm and a moment of reckoning. But we can’t help it. We pretty much only have two seasons around here and it leaves us wanting more.

I look at John-Paul Jespersen’s book, Man Was Here, and I’m completely sucked into the surreal snow scene on his first page. And every other photo does the same thing. Starry skies, illuminated oceans, glowing forests; I want to be there.

If you want to go beyond this Book of the Week, John-Paul blogs and features many of his images on his Web site.

  1. Fantastic! John Paul has a gift that few are given. But my guess is that he has to work hard at what he does as well. Thanks for putting this on your blog.

  5. The talent has been evident from a very early age. Nice to see it mature and blossom.

  6. JP Jespersen is one of the most talented artists I know and an old high school friend. The scenes from Salt Lake City (and beyond) are breathtaking. I just bought his book and I know it won’t disappoint. His work is absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to receive it!
