We’re big fans of the story behind the story, so stumbling upon “100 Words: Photographers Speak” on the National Public Radio (NPR) blog, The Picture Show was a happy discovery.

Take a look and read what photographers from around the world say about their work, their motivations for focusing on a subject, and their philosophies on memory, place, family, and culture.

Many of the featured photographers are documentarians and all of them, like us, are intrigued with the stories behind what they shoot whether it’s a series of photographs of Mexican pilgrims wearing their faith on their back, photographs of a Brazilian ghetto housed in an abandoned chocolate factory, or dreamy black and white images that explore the poetry of place.

Each 100-word snippet is grist for the creative mill, sort of like a little shot of inspiration. Enjoy.
