Long before digital was cool, Polaroid was hip. And now it’s back – or nearly so.
Polapremium (check out their twitter feed) has announced that the Polaroid is coming out of retirement and will be once again for sale in mid-2010.
New Polaroid film will be manufactured by The Impossible Project, a group of former employees and Polaroid devotees. Working at the Polaroid manufacturing plant in Enschede, The Netherlands, they’re recreating the famous film by replacing obsolete and expensive components to make the film affordable and accessible. It’s a labor of love and one that plenty of Blurbarians celebrate. After all, Polaroid books abound in the Blurb store.
By the way, did you see the Andy Warhol’s Polaroid shots of ’70s and ’80s sports stars in the 11/22/09 New York Times? We never knew that Warhol was a sports fan, but it doesn’t surprise us at all that he was a Polaroid fan. We are too.
