“Leslie presents us with a poignant testimony of a deeply disillusioned nation seeking recovery from a string of political, environmental and economic traumas.”
-Myriam Blundell, Curator, London, UK
Robert Leslie is known for his photographic journeys through India, Brazil, China, and Europe. In 2009, the British-born, Canadian-raised photographer set his viewfinder on the 8,000-kilometer Sun Belt, an economically challenged region of the United States that stretches between Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California. The series has formed the basis of a multimedia exhibition at Ed Burtynsky’s Gallery in Toronto, Canada. The exhibition uses audio narratives and stark imagery of ruin and beauty to bring Leslie’s journey to life. The show runs from May 2 to June 4.
Can’t make it to Toronto? Leslie’s book of the series, edited by Aperture Foundation’s Chris Boot, with text by Cameron Sinclair and Edward Burtynsky, is available in the Blurb Bookstore as both an ebook and a printed book.
