Interesting things converge at Blurb. When that happens, there’s just one thing to do: Include them in a round-up.
Today is Man Ray’s birthday. Trust us, you’ve seen his work. Known for his contributions to the Dada and Surrealist movements, he was named one of the 25 most influential artists of the 20th century by ARTnews magazine. Seems like a good day to reflect on his impact and influence.
Language barriers be damned. We’re pointing you to Wil Van Iersel’s blog even though we’re nowhere close to being fluent in Dutch. Wil is an Amsterdam-based photographer/artist and he’s making one Blurb book every week this entire year. Want us to do the math? That’s 52 books in 52 weeks. He lists all the book covers on his blog (he’s up to week 34) and describes the project in his own words:
‘Every week a new book’ is every week a new photo-book! I’m developing artist books by print on demand, each week a book with a new theme. It can be a reportage, a photo-essay or sketchbook. At the end there are 52 photo-books each in edition of one. Until the end of 2007 I will make a update on this blog with new covers, some text about photo-books and more funny things. So come back!
When all is said and done – or printed and bound – Wil’s books will be exhibited at the Nederlands Foto Museum in Rotterdam.
Don’t be afraid to visit the Neon Graveyard. We just saw Carl Carl’s Flickr set and learned that Vegas is home to The Neon Museum. (Of course. Where else.) While many of the museum’s signs are restored and put on display, a number of them are left outdoors on a three acre lot where they can be toured. Unfortunately, the museum isn’t exactly photo friendly. That’s a real shame because we know this is the kind of place that would inspire Blurbarians and their books. Know of any other places with equally funky collections? We’re always on the lookout, so let us know below.
