How’s this for dedication to photography? Stephen Schaub is photographer who’s taken on the daunting task of creating one Blurb book every week. And we don’t just mean putting the book together from shots he’s collected. No, Schaub does the whole deal, from conceiving of the project (fair grounds, bedrooms, head shots) to shooting it to sending it off to Blurb for printing. And at 60+ pages per book, that’s no small feat.
Through each carefully constructed volume, Schaub explores the pictorial possibilities presented by his chosen theme. His cool shots with their consistent scale and horizon line put the photographer just at the edge of the scene. Close, but also removed.
Schaub is a veteran of the first Gulf War who went on to get his degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences from the Rochester Institute of Technology. His One Week One Book project is truly inspiring. Check out the books below:
Even if you don’t have a book per week in you, a challenging project – like a 365 project or even a month of shooting one photo per day according to a theme or list – is one of the best ways to learn about photography, your camera, and yourself.
