Show the infographic above to any working photographer and he or she will nod knowingly. Despite what people think, most photographers, working writers, painters, illustrators, and graphic designers don’t spend their days hanging with the muse, partying like rock stars, or flitting off to exotic locations to do a story or a photo shoot.
The sad truth is that most creative professionals actually put in lots of hours on the more mundane side of work, like editing, filing, updating software and equipment, marketing, bookkeeping, promotions, and the like. Oh yeah, and making Blurb books (which we’d like to think falls into the fun side of things).
Thanks to a Photo Editor for passing this on.

Oh how true this is!!!!!
Hummmmm Maybe that is my problem…too much of the left and not enough of the right…good post
12.9% Taking pictures. 25.8% Chimping pictures…
Verissimo!
Eh…I just noticed that there’s NO “partying like rockstars” on the right at all. Sooo, like those photogs who ARE “partying like rockstars” are 1) lying, 2) have assistants (hello!) or 3) have assistants, but are still lying.
Hi Regina,
If you can manage partying like a rockstar and all the other tasks that come with being a working creative professional, then you truly are a rockstar and/or have an amazing assistant!
best,
Eileen
