Adventurer. Biologist. Activist. Educator. Blurb author. Fundraiser. Dr. Brian Fisher has one hell of a resume and his book, Save an Ant, Save a Planet, has an incredible story behind it.
Dr. Fisher trekked through the rainforests, deserts, and plains of Madagascar to inventory insects in an effort to discover and protect the region’s biodiversity of all plants and animals. While there, he also helped construct Madagascar’s first biodiversity research center and strived to make the local community more “bioliterate.” This was no small task.
His expedition was sponsored by the California Academy of Sciences, but funding fell short. He then turned to Blurb to make a book from which all proceeds go directly to support his mission. He is selling it in Blurb’s bookstore and part of the purchase, which is a contribution to the California Academy of Sciences, is tax deductible in the U.S.
We plan on following Brian’s success. He’ll be appearing soon on the BBC and we’ll post back if and when video is available. We wish him continued success in his efforts to understand and protect global ecosystems.
Save an Ant, Save a Planet is just one example of the ways people and groups are using Blurb to further their cause, whether it be fundraising for an American Diabetes Association camp, raising money for Ugandan children, or in this case, protecting global ecosystems. If you’re using Blurb to raise money, tell us about it. We’d like to know how books are making a difference.
