Last week we wondered if any of you Blurbarians had made YouTube videos about your bookmaking experience, and now we’ve got our answer: hai! Freelance photographer Kohjiro Kinno has posted a video featuring stills from his new book 2006 United States Kendo Team, which chronicles a year in the life of the martial arts championship contenders. Kohjiro even lets us in on the action at last month’s World Championships, where the U.S. team won an upset victory against Team Japan, reigning champs for the past 12 years.

With a background that includes Sports illustrated, ESPN, and Newsweek, Kojiro has impeccable photographic timing. He builds the drama with classic black and white portraits that could be stuntmen outtakes from Kurosawa movies, then breaks into sudden action with full-color shots of midair clashes. He’s priced his book at $100, which seems entirely reasonable given the challenges involved. Think about it: How much would you charge to come between two bamboo-sword-wielding, world-championship fighters? Way to think fast on your feet, Kojiro, and here’s wishing you much success with your book.
