We admit it: along with generous servings of eggnog, one of our favorite holiday traditions is those classic childhood photos of the yearly visit with Santa.
Here in the U.S., kids have been making the trip to Santa’s lap since 1890, when entrepreneur James Edgar dressed up as St. Nick in his Massachusetts dry goods store. Since then, the tradition’s gotten more and more elaborate, sometimes propped with live ponies, donkeys, stuffed reindeer, sleighs – and, pretty often, crying children. Though it might be more naughty than nice, those are the photos we go back to time and time again.
Of course, most Santa visit photos are taken with wish list in hand, but if he’s visiting your house instead, be sure to have your camera in hand, ready for priceless moments of your own.
And what to do if your little one fears a photo op with the bearded one? We say hang on to that snapshot – it could end up being the most-memorable Santa visit ever.
